I don’t have a problem with them questioning those things, because at the end of the day, I’m quite new to the scene and I rose to fame quite quickly thanks to my YouTube series, so I’ve always had to prove my worth. Something that Ariel said was that something I’ve always experienced from other queens. ‘I think the pressure was from myself because I knew the fans were expecting great things from me, because I had a fanbase. Competitor Ariel Versace called her out for her vlogger fame, questioning whether she was an entertainer – something Soju was expecting. ![]() Soju entered the season with a fanbase already, as she hosts the YouTube series Shot With Soju, on which she reviews Drag Race. I did cry when they said those things to me, because at least they got to see that.’ To me, that’s my selling point – I am a very genuine person who wants to entertain people and make people smile, and also educate people about my culture in a fun and artistic way. ![]() They loved my hair, they loved my make-up, they loved my personality. ‘They all said positive things about my drag. The construction was really messy and I think that was the main problem. ‘At the end of the day, I could have given the same silhouette and if the construction better, I’d have stayed out of the bottom two. I always have to explain why my food smells this way, why my house smells this way, why my parents reacted to my grades this way. The 27-year-old said: ‘I wasn’t disappointed because I’m used to having to explain my culture to American people. Her look was criticised for being shapeless, but Soju is more than used to having to explain her Korean style of drag.
